Fisher Price Rainforest Bouncer

I think we will probably end up getting the Fisher-Price Rainforest Bouncer. After rocking, shushing, bouncing, and going crazy with Hila for hours, we finally got her to sleep in Bethami‘s old bouncer (Eden’s really), while we sat on the floor beside her and continued to rock and shush her. It sure would be nice to have a machine, fully loaded with bells and whistles, take over for a little bit to rock her back to calmness, or better yet, sleep. And for those amazing times when she’s quiet and content to just sit and look around, I think then she’d like the bouncer too.

I think a swing would probably work better, but it’s a little harder to convince someone to bring a big swing from America, space-wise, and they are just way too overpriced here to even consider — and we do have Bethami’s old swing anyways, which Hila likes even though it drives us crazy.

Mazel tov on the safe arrival of your baby girl! I hope you don’t mind me leaving a comment but I found your page by accident when I was googling the baby jogger city mini. I was trying to decide whether to buy it, now I am just trying to decide where to buy it since I want the best deal possible. Tell me – what did you get in the end? I have a 21 month old girl called Ariella and I live in London. I just love gadgets too and research a lot into every little purchase I make 😉 I found the mommy hooks on ebay from an Ozzie firm and even with global postage they are still loads cheaper than UK firms are selling them for (an arm and a leg). I have a rainforest cot mobile and my daughter STILL loves it (though we have attached it somewhere she can’t get hold of it and not on her cot any more). Soon after her birth we were given a bouncy chair with a vibrate function and a bubbling water display that had lights and music and I have to say it was a lifesaver! It kept her occupied until she practically bust out of the chair at about 7 months. Well worth it. Anyway, good luck with your baby! They change so fast so just enjoy 🙂 Liz x

Hey Liz, thanks for commenting! I'll respond point by point: First, we got the City Mini in the end and so far, so good! It's not GREAT for bumping up and down stairs (of which Jerusalem is filled) but otherwise, it's light, so so easy to fold, and looks cute too. In terms of places to buy it — well, it's definitely cheapest in the U.S., I would think. My mother-in-law picked it up for us at Buy Buy Baby (which is the baby store to Bed Bath & Beyond) for about $220-20% off coupon. Can't do the math now, but it's for sure the cheapest option. We also got the rain cover and car seat adaptor at 20% off rates.

Got the Mommy Hook too — I think it was like $6 in the U.S. Pretty cheap.

So in terms of the bouncer — now I have someone offering to bring me a swing….so if you could only have one, a bouncer that vibrates, lights up, etc. (like yours or the rainforest one that I like) or a swing (that plays music and…swings), which would you choose?

    Thanks! Sarah

I’m surprised the swings are so expensive here. Last time we certainly bought the first, cheapest one that we saw (and it drove us crazy too), but certainly they must at least be affordable for decent quality somewhere – no?
I totally want to get rid of that swing and get a new one next time around.

Actually I didn’t look at swing prices here other than the marked up fisher price ones (like 800+ shekels for what in the U.S. is closer to $100!). But judging by the prices of bouncers here, the swings will also be expensive. The cheap bouncers didn’t have adustable sound.

And of course you can always borrow whatever new stuff we have when we’re done using it.

Also, the truth is Bethami, is that she loves your swing….so I’m not sure if I want to bother with a new one if it’s only for our sake.

We have a shmatty Israel bouncer, the cheapest we could find, it vibrated/had music and lay flat, and from 1-2 months onwards Yonah loved it, so there’s no need to get a very fancy one. We also got the 800sh (was 600sh two years ago!) fisher price swing, which was a godsend, and has been in constant use with various friend’s babies after we’d finished with it (would lend it you but right now our neighbour has it) You also might want to check out the fisher price infant to toddler rocker, it works from newborn till 5/6 months, and then you put it away for a few months and take it out from a year onward as a little reading/tv chair. hope you’re feeling well and menachem is pulling his weight- naomi x

Glad she loves it, even if you don’t. For some reason i find that funny – good for Hila for sticking up for what she wants! You go girl 🙂

Hello, it’s Liz again! As to your question about swing vs bouncer… well maybe if I had been buying it I might have gone for the swing. But I had no choice since we were handed down one and I am so so grateful because it turned out to be so much better than I would have thought. It was really the bubble display that won the day. That kept her fascinated long after both vibrations or swinging would have bored her and she would kick her legs madly in excitement. It was very funny. But then my child is easily bored, she is not the kind to sit still for long and we always have to find things to amuse her – she is hard hard work!

I’m glad you are happy with your buggy. I still haven’t got around to buying one but I have found a website here in the UK where they are £150 but I don’t know what the current exchange rate is, maybe 5 or 6 sheckels to the pound. I know it used to be 8 but now the pound is collapsing so people aren’t getting such a good deal when they go abroad with their pounds (whereas conversely you would do well to buy in pounds). The city mini is a good choice for you too cos of the huge hood – all that bright light you have over there! Not such a big issue in the grey UK.

A couple of questions – does it steer well with one hand? And can you hang things easily off the handle?

Hope you are enjoying life with your baby!

One more thing – try not to get too reliant on the electric chair, because come Shabbos, you’ll be in trouble without it!! I was at my wits end what to do then because everything that worked to keep her amused was electrical. Big pain!

PS How is the Mommy Hook on the city mini?

Hey Liz, so in the end, I’m getting the aquarium bouncer — someone on Janglo was selling it, so I grabbed at the opportunity. I’ll let you know how it goes…And I’ll also be getting a swing from America. Will write about it soon…
