Long Sleeve Sleep Sacks

Babies are not supposed to sleep with blankets or toys in their cribs. For young babies, these objects can pose a suffocation threat (poo poo poo), and for older babies, they can give the baby a leg-up to help him/her climb out of the crib. Therefore, what do you do with baby on a cold winter’s night, or even in the summer, when a pair of regular pajamas isn’t enough to keep baby warm? We’ve mentioned the Grobag Baby Sleeping Bags here on this site, and that’s a great option if it’s really warm in the nursery or if your baby is wearing really warm pajamas underneath, among other layers. But it’s not really a replacement for a warm blanket. The following sleep sacks, or “wearable blankets,” are cozy, long-sleeved baby sleeping bags that, with a pair of pajamas underneath, will keep your baby warm (and sleeping better) without using a blanket. The sleeveless ones really just don’t make so much sense to me. 1. Just One Year (Joy) SleepBags – Midweight fabric. 2. Summer Infant Slumbersack – Lightweight microfleece. 3. Safe Dreams Wearable Blanket, by HALO – Fleece. (This one comes in an X-Large size (18-24 months), which is

Baby Things I Love…Round Two

It was so much fun taking out all my baby stuff and introducing them to our new baby. Here are a few essential baby things that deserve a second shout out: 1. Fisher Price Open Top Take-Along Rainforest Swing — This is really a great product. It’s compact so doesn’t take up loads of space, and plays really pleasant music (and I would know — every time my 2-year-old passes it she turns it on).2. Munchkin Diaper Change Organizer — This we’ve used every day since Hila was born. For a disorganized, messy person, this diaper organizer really helps keep things neat and orderly. 3. Soothie Pacifiers — Once again I have a child who rejects all pacifiers. Fortunately, this time we didn’t have to wait until month 3 to discover the soothing effects of the Soothie pacifiers. She still needs some practice, but the Soothie is definitely her favorite non-boob pacifier. 4. Baby Wearable Blankets — We don’t have the Grobag in particular, but have a few others that keep baby cozy at night without the risk of loose blankets floating around the crib. 5. Kiddopotamus Snuzzler — We use this for added support and comfort in our Rainforest

Baby Shoes We Love

When possible, I let Hila walk/run around without shoes–apparently it’s better for their balance to let them practice walking on bare feet than on shoes. That’s not to say that I wasn’t super excited to start shoe shopping for Hila the first opportunity that I got. During her crawling phase we got her Robeez–they were used mainly to keep her feet warm and to prevent her from pulling off her socks. She wore her Robeez during her early stages of walking as well. Now that she’s an expert walker (sort of), we’ve invested in some real shoes. Here are a few of our favorites: 1. Koala Bear Robeez — This was Hila’s first pair of Robeez. Adorable, right?2. Flower Mary Janes — I bought these about a week before Hila started walking, so she actually hasn’t gotten much wear out of them. 3. Carter’s Lovely Light Up Sneakers — These are serious sneakers. They’ve got a lot of padding and sort of make Hila look like Bigfoot. They light up with every adorable step she takes; I always though light up shoes were stupid, but…y’know…Hila pulls it off pretty well.4. Converse All-Star Double Tongue Kid’s Shoes in Green, Pink, and

Grobag Baby Sleeping Bags

As parents of a 2 year old we’re often the source of advice for friends who are expecting a baby or who’ve just become new parents. One question I get asked is, “What product would you recommend for our new baby?” And my answer is always Grobag Baby Sleeping Bags. Grobags are little sleeping bags that allow babies to move their arms which keeping their bodies and legs snug and come recommended by the British foundation for prevention of SIDS- sudden infant death syndrome. They come in sizes from 0-6 months (7lbs-or 3.5kg) up to 3 years, with loads of funky designs and colours. During those first few months grobags kept our son at a consistent temperature – so no need to wake him up in the night to check he is wasn’t too hot or too cold (yes, new parents really do this)! It also meant that he couldn’t kick off his blankets in the night, solving many of the problems usually associated with sleeping away from home, not to mention the trauma of moving from a bassinet or moses basket to a bigger cot. When used as part of a night time routine they can help your baby
